Spiritual Sundays: Broken but Alive

Have you ever had something break in your life and thought at that time you would surely die? It was the end of your world; there was no coming back?

Well I’m here to tell you dry those tears; get your mind and thoughts in check and move forward! Climb that mountain! Cross that river! Ride that cloud! And just rejoice!

Everything that seems like it’s your worst day can turn into the best life lesson and motivation that you need to reach your next level!

When Jesus told Peter to get out the boat; did Peter say no or did he get out? Yes he took his eyes of Jesus for a mere second but he knew that without Jesus he couldn’t do it! (Matthew 14:22-33)

When God told Noah to build the Ark, did Noah say nope just let me and my family go down like everybody else? No, he got to working and building! (Genesis 6:1-22)

When Adam trusted Eve more than he did God and was banished from the Garden; did he give up and say I’m done and just whither away? No, he still went on to live and multiply in the Earth! (Genesis 3:1-23)

Abraham and Sarai: she felt empty and broken and would’ve rather given her husband to another woman than to wait on God! (Genesis 16:1-15; Genesis 18:1-15)

What have you done in your season of brokenness that would appear out of order? Did you go out and react on your own or did you wait on God? Many times there are lessons, healing, revelations, clarity, marching orders, quiet time, etc; in the midst of your brokenness!

This past week I slipped and fell trying to prevent an even bigger disaster from happening and ended up breaking my ankle and my foot! As I went down I knew something was wrong and on my own I couldn’t fix it; as my brother rushed to my side he immediately began to comfort me and reassure me it wasn’t as bad as it looked; I was going to be fine! (At first glance, rush of pain and the sound of something breaking; I was sure my leg was broken and my heart just dropped)

Long story but here’s the short version; yes I broke two areas that I needed to effectively stand up and proceed to walk into the life that God has designed for me. But, somewhere in the midst He requires us to rest and recharge ourselves!

You see we always think of the bad and not the in between! Yes, for me this may look like a set-back but in God’s eyes He is preparing me for something so big and so awesome that He knew I would need time to adjust! (Genesis 2:2, Matthew 14:23, Luke 6:12, Luke 5:15-16, Mark 6:31, Mark 1:35)

Where in your life are you feeling broken?

What areas do you feel you can work on?

How can you get past the thoughts of brokenness?

Have you tried to pray and ask for guidance and clarity?

Don’t rush the process. Use this time wisely and figure out what You need to do! Whatever the situation look at the bright side of it! In the in-between is where you will find your answers and solutions!

Kingdom Gals: Becoming a Kingdom Woman

BECOMING A KINGDOM WOMAN: Part One, Your Value. Written by Raquel L. McClenehan

Take a hundred dollar bill.  Walk on it. Crumple it. Sneeze on it. Spit on it. Tear it in two…it never loses its value and neither do you!

Let’s revisit the origin of our Divine Design (Genesis 2: 21-25) and we rediscover just how wonderful it is to be a woman.

Throughout the ages women have been described in many ways.  Some of the more positive terms are: Adam’s Rib, The Better Half, The Weaker Sex.

But here’s one rarely mentioned in the context of power and strength, ezer kenegdo!

You may recall it as help meet in Genesis 2:18. But perhaps have never appreciated it in its full symbolic meaning. It’s a rare word used only when God wants to display unusual power. No wonder that in some bible camps it is controversial to relate it women.

I wonder why?

For years bible preachers and teachers have assigned Eve’s role as essentially negative or at best a sort of assistant or subordinate worker to Adam.

Yes, the Sistah messed up but the truth is that she was co-regent in Eden, important, valued, and of equal importance and essence!

She was Adam’s Completer, one who enabled him to be the leader God ordained to rule His kingdom!

Sin entered the world when they BOTH failed to realize their value!

Praise God for His amazing grace!  Humankind and his authority has been restored through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).

His kingdom is not the Garden of Eden now but the entire world! Like mannequins in a store window our assignment is to live a life so attractive that we draw others into God’s kingdom of righteousness and grace.

Sounds intimidating doesn’t it?  Like walking all day in four inch heels, Chrystal says.  But with the right designer and the right material it is not only doable but comfortable!

So come on Kingdom woman-in-the-making embrace your inner royalty.  Command the respect God has accorded you by accepting who you are and loving it in all its uniqueness.

Do not allow anyone to demean you or make you feel inferior.  You are chosen, regal and a priestess of the Most High! (I Peter 2:9)

You are still needed and have a role and place to fulfill but can’t do it with heads bowed down in shame….if we must bow our heads let’s do so in prayer but then raise them up again in the spirit of an Ezer kenegdo woman.

A woman with value and strength on display!

Kingdom Gals: Give it to God!

Today has been a very trying day for me! Better yet the past couple of weeks. Have you ever felt so helpless; like you couldn’t say or do anything?

So many times we want to handle things on our own or do things our way.

But, when you make the choice to live your life better; you pretty much have to follow a different set of rules! You can’t just punch folk in their face anymore, you can’t curse anyone out; etc. You basically have to turn the other cheek and “Let Go and Let God”. Let me be clear that’s not always an easy thing to do!

Now, we believers know that Our Heavenly Father will take care of those that mess with his children; but we want it to be instantly! God works on His timeframe; not ours!

Has anyone ever done you wrong? Have you ever been disrespected? Has anyone ever deprived you of an opportunity? Have you ever been treated like you were nobody or you didn’t matter? What did you do? How did you react?

As a child of the Most High God; we have to stand down but; your flesh wants to react! You want to say something, you want to let it be known that you see the foolishness; you want to be heard! But, many times if not all you have to keep quiet and allow God to handle it on your behalf!

Today, as my family gathered to say our final goodbyes to our grandfather; I cried like it was the end of the world! My heart was crushed and my soul and spirit felt overwhelmed!

When you know things and can’t speak them it’s a feeling I can’t quite explain. I wanted the opportunity to share about my grandfather, I wanted to set the record straight, I wanted my voice to be heard; but his wife wanted to be in control. She didn’t care that his family wanted to share any heartfelt messages. She made it about her and her family.

Family has always been important to me and I try to instill that in my children. When you marry you want to marry for the right reasons and the right person! You want to believe that people can change and learn to be better people but some people just aren’t built that way. Being that God gives us free will that opens up so many possibilities for people to get it wrong but also get it right; but you have to be on board fully to allow the good to flow through!

While I will never get another chance to stand up and speak about my grandfather; I am grateful that God chose him to be my grandfather! I am grateful that God allowed me to go and spend time with him his final days! I am grateful that I was able to pray for him before he departed! I am grateful I was able to tell him I loved him one last time! That’s something nobody can take away from me!

I was so hurt today! I was crushed! My soul was crying out! But I know God got me! He sees and knows all; everything we do, He knows about!

This is why we have to be better than those that do us wrong! We can’t stoop to their level! We can’t knock them upside their head! We can’t flat nobody tires! We can’t key they car! We can’t pull they hair out or wig off! We got to stay classy! We got to keep it all the way Kingdom! What would Jesus do?

People was looking at me like I was crazy; I was crying so uncontrollably. People don’t know the pain you go through of being deprived and having to keep a tight lip; but God does and He has the final say so! Nothing you have experienced has went unseen or unheard of; God has got this!

A friend told me this some years back, “you can’t choose you’re family”! While she may had a good point I’ve come to realize the family that God places you in was for a reason and no you can’t choose your bloodline; but when you make the choice to bring others into the equation make sure they are coming to bring joy and not sorrow.

Whatever you’re experiencing in your life right now and it’s causing all kinds of confusion, despair, strife, negativity; etc! Give it to God!

Spiritual Sundays: Cast Your Nets: Luke 5:4

How are you at following directions? Are you the type to argue or have to get the last word in? The disciplines walked along side Jesus and had seen many miracles and still had disbelief!

If Jesus says to do something why is there even a question or hesitation? How many of us have questioned the very instructions? Don’t do this and don’t do that! Why Lord? Don’t go over here and say away from this person! Why Lord?

Jesus told Simon to launch into the deep! Did he do it immediately? Or did he have to get his say in? Oh but Jesus we been here all night and you can see the net is still empty; but if you want me to I will. (Paraphrased)

What happen once Simon put the net into the water? They got more than they had bargained for! You see if Simon didn’t listen he would’ve missed out on his blessing! Not only him but for those around him as well!

How many times have we missed out on a promise? A blessing that was raining down from heaven; with our name attached, because we didn’t follow directions?

God is calling you out! Are you ready? #deepseadiving #castoutyournet

Just like the disciples were fisher of men! So many of us are called to do the same; but not only that we have to be willing to tread into those deep waters; because so many are lost and drowning and don’t even realize it!

We aren’t here just for us alone! There are others that need our help! Men, women and children! Those fish that were caught that day not only fed Simon, Jesus and the other disciples but the multitudes of people that came to see and hear Jesus speak and get healing! But not only that; Jesus recruited the men to walk with him so He can show them the ropes; so they can take over when He departed!

What’s inside of you and me is for the ones we are called to help! So it’s time to cast your net! Draw them in! Don’t be discouraged if you have to get waist deep and pull them out!

Kingdom Gals: “Why Me, God?” Guest Blogger-Tanisha Shanee

Growing up I knew I was different. From daycare, I did not care to go outside and play with my classmates, I was in the books and practicing my penmanship. I was in pursuit of finding “It”. Now, what was it? I did not know, but I was looking for it. I knew there was something I needed to achieve and even at the young age of 3, I was looking for it. So this made school very easy for me because I figured whatever I was looking for was in one of those textbooks. Man… was I wrong. LOL.

I can laugh about it now, but I do wish I understood where it was a lot longer because it would’ve saved me a lot of student loan debt – I finished high school at 16, graduated college at 20, got my MBA, and is 99% completed with my PhD – I am a ABD (all but dissertation). See, I spent my life thinking if I learned more in school I would find happiness, the answer to what I was looking for, and high recognition. But, after every completion of a degree or milestone I still felt like, “Nope, that wasn’t it.”

People never understood why I was so depressed and attempted suicide several times in my life. I was getting very annoyed with trying to figure out why despite having everything that people classified as being successful, I was still incomplete. None of that stuff seemed to matter. This was so frustrating.

In 2012, I started my weight loss journey and when I tell people, it was so unexpected how things turned rapidly in my life See, I cried out to God because I needed His help to lose the weight. I was tired of the many failed diet attempts, the expensive weight loss products, and the memberships I never used. I needed something that would help me change my mind and I guess I would give God a try. But, see God has his own plan and the more you listen to what He presents, you will find yourself trying to figure out, “Well, how in the heck did I end up here?”

2016 was definitely a trigger year. God was sitting directly in my face and was making me very uncomfortable. Here I was receiving so many “downloads” and they were heavy. God was sending me to scripture and I was being told to “release it.” I did not understand why me? I was not a preacher or minister, so why was God sending these messages to me? One day I came across a Pastor from California on Periscope and he said to me, “You cannot run from who you are. God will use anyone, so accept it.” It was so strange because society told me otherwise, but I had to trust God because He did not stop sending the messages, so that meant something, right?

But, despite feeling uncomfortable and not qualified, I felt peace – a peace I never felt before. Had I found it? Did I reach the destination that I was looking for all my life? The wisdom that I was told I had from a child was starting to make sense – it was wisdom from the Lord. God was giving me downloads since I was a child. But, like any other uncomfortable destination, I was worried about this because I was encountering situations that I could not describe; therefore, I wouldn’t tell people. Like random strangers reaching out to me on Facebook asking me to pray for them because “God told me to come to you.” Even though I did not feel comfortable praying with them, I did and they experienced healing. WHAT? Come on, God, you cannot do that? But, I had to accept God can do all things and He will use who He wants to use.

One day I asked God a bold question, “Why did you give this to me? Was this what I sought after all these years?” I imagined my destination would look a lot different. I had accepted that I was a teacher, so I embraced that. I thought I would be a dean at a college, but I guess God said, nope… You’ll be another type of educator.

It is not easy, but every time I release a message from the Lord, I just let it be. When God tells me to do something, I just do it. I understand what when I show up and help someone or speak, I am bringing someone closer to God. When I do not know the person I must give a message to, I no longer think that I am a weirdo because it could be the answer they have been waiting on. When I am sent someone to speak, I know to invite the Holy Spirit with me on that stage because when He does, it is bound to turn the place out – literally.

If you are wondering why you too, don’t. Embrace the calling on your life. Allow God to use you in the manner and way He desires. You are more qualified to complete the mission. You are not a weirdo nor strange – you are gifted and wonderfully made. Get to that destination and get there quickly because the sooner you accept who you are, the people that need you will be able to reach their greatest potential – you are the missing piece.

Kingdom Gals: Are You Battle Ready?

Your Crushing and Mine; Isn’t designed to take Us out!! It may appear so; but look deeper…

The Spiritual battle isn’t like your everyday street fight! You have to come prepared and have a plan of action. Your mind has to be equipped to block those fiery darts!!!

The book of Ephesians tells us we are to put on the whole armor of God! So again I ask you! Are you battle ready? Are you ready to block those fiery darts? Are you ready to Pull yourself up; when you’ve been knocked down? Are you ready to Turn the other cheek when you’re slapped back into reality?

When that negativity comes out of nowhere! You have to come right back; “I am blessed and highly favored”! When those attacks start coming in “no weapon formed against me shall prosper” when you begin to feel like it’s too much and you want to give up; “be strong and courageous”!

We have to be battle ready! The enemy will use any situation to come in and cause destruction! That’s his job; We have to be ready! So We won’t be defeated; in our minds, our bodies, our soul and our spirit! Stay on guard!

Every situation God uses to build Us up; the enemy can switch it up and try to break us down! For example; God can be moving the wrong people out our lives and the enemy flips it and have us thinking that we did something wrong for these people to depart and what we do? We Chase after them! Or have a pity party! Please Realize the blessing in disguise! God has better on the way; allow Him to part the sea in your life! Allow Him to work!

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fiery furnace they weren’t burned, they didn’t even smell of smoke; why?

Because God was with them! They didn’t deny him, they didn’t compromise, they didn’t lower their standards; they believed and had Faith that God was with them and that He would show up and show out!

What Is God trying to accomplish in your life? Living for God isn’t and won’t be easy! The battles will be many but He has equipped Us with ALL WE NEED.

So, I challenge you all today:

Pick up your Full Armor of God!

Pick up your Helmet

Pick up your sword

Pick up your shield

There is a BATTLE TO BE WON!

Are You Ready?

#SpiritualSundays: The Kiss of Death

Have you ever been betrayed by someone you loved or thought you could trust? How did that make you feel? Did you forgive them and continue to allow them to occupy space in your life? Or have you been the one to sell someone out for mere pennies? Was it worth it? What did you accomplish by doing this to someone who trusted you and was a friend or treated you like family? Do you later on apologize and ask their forgiveness?

fight

Let’s look at this story in the book of Luke; before Jesus was to be given over to the enemy, to face his death and die on the cross for us; that believe in him. “Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present”. Luke 22:3-6 (NKJV)

kiss_pic_lips

Later on in the story Judas gives away Jesus with just a kiss; that was the signal to the enemy that He was the one! Does this story ring true for so many of us that are betrayed for people in our lives? Jesus knew way before it was time that Judas was to betray him; he even told him that he would be the one! But, Judas didn’t believe him because he loved Jesus so much. But we see that he loved those coins so much more! They sounded good jiggling in his pocket and oh baby; the stuff he could buy with the coins! He could get some new sandals, a new robe and a belt! How many of us have sold out Jesus and our personal relationship for a few coins? A few handbags? A car payment? A house payment? How far did we get? The following month you still needed those same bills paid; was it worth it?

coins

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows”. 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV)

sheep

If you had the choice to have all the money in the world; or a relationship with Jesus, which would you choose? We have a choice! That’s what I love so much about our Heavenly Father; He gives a choice; between Life and Death! We all should know that when you choose Him you get to have a life filled with abundance! Will it be perfect? No, but at least you still have your right mind, your loving heart, your compassionate soul and a trustworthy spirit! What more can you ask for?

sorry

Kingdom Gals: Faith

Faith: Written by Latoya Olivia Guion

The Holy Ghost visited me concerning this word.  It’s only one word, small yet powerful and profound.  Unfortunately us as believers don’t use this word as much as we should.

For whatever reason we think it applies to only certain situations and circumstances. When in fact it should be used for any trial or tribulation you are faced with.

We as believers are faced with many challenges, some challenges we don’t even recognize to be actual challenges.

Health, wellness, eating properly, (3rd John 1:2) letting God choose our Adam, bringing that dream or idea to fruition.

Faith should be used in our home with our children, as they are faced with a mountain of obstacles..faith should be used with our husbands, and friends.

Faith is needed in every situation  that we face. Faith is just activating your belief in what God has told you about your life, even without seeing it.  Walking in confidence and assurance that he will deliver on his promises!!

Believing what he tells you in his Word. So you might be wondering what exactly did God speak to me about?  Well he woke me up a few weeks ago with Ephesians 6:10-17.

This chapter in Ephesians speaks of putting on the whole Armor of God. But what was so profound to me was the verse that talks about faith, The SHIELD OF FAITH to be exact.

Ephesians 6: 16. God considers The SHIELD OF FAITH to be extremely important.  As a matter of fact he says in the scripture above all of the other Armor, having the SHIELD OF FAITH!

I literally had to activate my SHIELD OF FAITH this week with my 15-year-old daughter and her school teacher, who has been bullying her and intimidating her since the first week of school.

It started with attacking her character as a person, this teacher kept trying to create a person that doesn’t exist, to feed her own insecurities about my black daughter.

It started with sending her home with a conduct grade that was contrary to who she is, and who her other teachers and coaches knows she is.

We sat down with the principal on Monday, he immediately recognized that something was wrong, as my daughter began to tell him the stories of how she is singled out in class for no reason, and for simply trying to do her work properly in a group.

We left the office knowing that he would be speaking to this particular teacher, and he gave my daughter the assurance that she could always come to him if she had any more problems. The next day this teacher attacked my daughter verbally, entered her personal space, threatened to kick her out of class simply because she wanted to do her assignment on a whiteboard which is the proper procedure, so her peers could actually see what she was doing and understand. My daughter immediately left the classroom went to the principal in tears. Now me as her mother when I heard this, was infuriated.

I had emotions that I cannot even explain! Emotions of feeling like I had no control because my daughter was in a situation of racial injustice in her classroom. This led me to get on my knees and pray! I had to pray because I had an actual meeting I had to go to and sit with this teacher and look her in the face, later on that day.  I knew I could not go into this meeting feeling the way that I did.

So I called on my God for help!  I placed my daughter’s picture in my Bible a few weeks ago, not knowing what scripture I had placed it by. Once I finished praying and asking God for help, I asked him to lead me to a scripture, I decided to open the Bible up where my daughters picture was, and low and behold Psalm 64 was there, talking about how the enemy plots and spits arrows of lies from their tongues, but how God will shoot arrows back at the enemy making them confused and stopping their attacks!

I advise you read Psalm 64.  When I read this, my Faith was activated, I knew that he was letting me know that he had my daughter and he had me!  I immediately had a peace and a calm, and I walked into that room and said everything I needed to say. Needless to say everybody in the room including the counselor and the principal knew what kind of people we were (my daughter and I)and who this teacher is.

I watched Psalm 64 play out in this meeting, Literally!! The Principal spoke very highly of my daughter and he’s only met her twice! See when the devil tried to paint an evil picture, me activating the Shield of Faith blocked it!

When the  enemy comes for you at every side, when he attacks your head,  your feet your heart, and your mind, have the SHIELD OF FAITH! Meaning no matter what you feel, no matter what you think, no matter the lie the enemy Creates, no matter what the situation or the circumstance, if you Activate your SHIELD OF FAITH, you are Shielded from the fiery darts, schemes, and treachery of the enemy!

So if the enemy tells you are not good enough? Raise your SHIELD OF FAITH! If the enemy tells you, your dreams are to big? Raise your SHIELD OF FAITH!

If the enemy tells you, you won’t be Healed, can’t write that book, have that Job, be debt free? Raise your SHIELD OF FAITH! Pretty much no matter how bad it looks, feels or seems, it’s a lie! Raise and Activate your SHIELD OF FAITH!  Because when you do, you activate a power like none other in existence!

A power that can’t be suppressed or conformed!  A power that is undeniable…you activate God himself!  So now….Whose report will you believe?  Well I believe the report of the Lord….and so should you!

Spiritual Sundays: When Love Hurts

In the Bible we are taught that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

I didn’t come to find this out until many years later. I didn’t know love was supposed to hurt; especially if both people felt the same way. He always said he loved me but he would beat me down like a dog! He would treat me as his punching bag! Each and every time it seemed like the punches got harder and harder!

But, every time it was over he said he was sorry and that he loved me. Did that make it okay? I wouldn’t call the police if I thought he loved me? Was he telling me that because he knew I would believe him?

Why do young ladies and women fall for abusive guys? These types of guys are good at hiding their true identity; and good at appearing to being a good guy or a gentlemen until that “honeymoon phase” is over. That time frame depends on the people and the situation! They are charming, they say all the right things and they know just what to say.

Many young ladies and women go through an identity crisis and fall victim to these guys; I was one of them! I didn’t know my true self, I didn’t know the power that I had, I didn’t know I was beautiful and wonderfully made, I didn’t know that Our Heavenly Father loved me and I was his, and I didn’t know that there was an enemy out there roaming the land seeking whom he could devour; who he could come to steal from, kill or destroy!

Domestic violence is real and countless young ladies and women go through this by someone that claims to love them! Many of them don’t make it out alive. So many times could’ve been my last! Real love doesn’t hurt and it doesn’t seek you out to kill you!
