Check the Fruit! Beware of those you call friends…

Have you ever heard this statement before “check the fruit”? Well I have and at first I was absolutely lost! Church folks have a different way of talking sometimes and being a new Christian at the time; I had to be schooled on what this particular statement meant.

Here is a scripture reference that will shed some light and explain what I am talking about: 15″Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them”. Matthew 7:15-20 (NKJV)

Basically you can’t call everyone your friend;because some come with their masks on and will play the role, but all the while scheming behind your back! They will be connected to you for their own personal gain; to see you fall flat on your face and kick you when you’re down! They will discourage you from doing anything that will advance you into your next level.

I started writing this article a few weeks ago and didn’t get the chance to finish; and I believe there is a reason why. These past couple weeks I have had to check the fruit! I have had to take a hard look at some of the people I allowed in my life and called friends. Some I knew for years and others I was just getting to know and they ‘appeared’ and ‘acted’ genuine! When you get to a place where you love yourself and respect yourself; you just can’t tolerate the foolishness!

Having the wrong people in your life doesn’t do you any good! It doesn’t help you go as an individual; if the person is constantly negative towards you and never inspires, empowers, motivates or encourages you; then they are a major distraction and they need to go!

We have to remember the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy! (“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. John 10:10)

Stop allowing negative people into your inner circle! Don’t add them to your  fav five! Be on the look out and stop them in their tracks! Your friend list may get smaller and smaller; but who said you needed a whole entourage to walk into your purpose?

Until next time.
